Early career researchers in mathematics or mathematical physics are invited to apply for full-time postdoctoral positions at KSE. To apply, candidates should hold a PhD in mathematics or a closely related field.
The newly hired postdoctoral researchers will play a leading role in building a thriving research environment in mathematical sciences at KSE and fostering collaborations within the global research community. The duties of a postdoc at KSE include conducting research, mentoring undergraduates, and teaching. The languages of instruction are English and Ukrainian. No knowledge of Ukrainian is required from candidates. We expect postdoctoral researchers to engage in one teaching activity per term, which could include lecturing small groups, providing teaching assistance, or running a graduate student seminar.
The positions will start on August 1, 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter. We expect to fill three postdoctoral positions in this first round of hiring.
The opening of new positions is linked to the launch of new international undergraduate and graduate programs in mathematical sciences at KSE in the Fall of 2025. A preliminary description of the undergraduate programs in mathematical sciences at KSE can be found here: https://kse.ua/planned-undergraduate-programs-in-mathematics-at-KSE.pdf
The offering of graduate courses will depend on the research interests of researchers hired through this and other job advertisements.
Hours: Full time
Contract type: Fixed-term contract for up to three years. Three positions starting on August 1, 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Names, affiliations and contact emails of two academics who have agreed to provide references for the candidate
(Optional) Teaching statement
The application deadline is January 31, 2025. When submitting the documents, please use ‘Application for a Postdoctoral Position in Mathematics / Mathematical Physics’ as the subject of your email.
Two reference letters should be submitted by the referees to the same email address by the closing date. Applicants are responsible for contacting their referees and ensuring that their letters are received by the closing date. If you have any questions, candidates are welcome to write to mathpositions@kse.org.ua. The contact person for the position is Ms. Nadiia Kasianchuk.
Selection process: Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews by February 15. Interviews will be conducted remotely in the second half of February, and final decisions will be announced in March. All applicants will be notified of the results of their applications.
Selection criteria: KSE follows an open, transparent, and merit-based recruitment policy. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate excellence in research. The selection committee will consider the need to balance various fields of mathematical sciences in the newly created Department of Mathematics at KSE. KSE upholds high ethical standards and is committed to diversity and accessibility for all. We encourage women and candidates from other underrepresented minorities in mathematical sciences to apply. Our campus is accessible to people with limited mobility.
Safety and flexibility: Ukraine has been resisting the full-scale military invasion by the Russian Federation since the beginning of 2022. Kyiv is far from the front line, and the effects of the war in the city are primarily seen through air raids and power outages. Despite this, Kyiv is functioning fully, including medical services and the education system. In light of the uncertainties caused by the war, KSE welcomes candidates who are ready to join for shorter periods, starting from one teaching term, as well as those who would like to maintain their affiliation with a foreign university while working at KSE. This information can be included in the cover letter submitted by candidates.
