The Kyiv School of Economics intends to appoint three associate professors (or professors) in pure mathematics or mathematical physics, starting from August 1, 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter. Candidates should hold a PhD in mathematics or a closely related area.
The newly hired faculty members will play a leading role in building the new Department of Mathematics at KSE and in developing collaborations across the global research community. The duties of a KSE professor include conducting research, supervising graduate students, teaching, and mentoring undergraduate students. The languages of instruction are English and Ukrainian. No knowledge of the Ukrainian language is required. Our teaching workload is approximately 50% of the time, or three lecture courses per year. This includes teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses, as well as running graduate student seminars.
The opening of new positions is linked to the launch of new international undergraduate and graduate programs in mathematical sciences at KSE in the Fall of 2025. A preliminary description of the undergraduate programs in mathematical sciences at KSE can be found here: https://kse.ua/planned-undergraduate-programs-in-mathematics-at-KSE.pdf
The offering of graduate courses will depend on the research interests of researchers hired through this and other job advertisements.

Selection criteria: KSE follows an open, transparent, and merit-based recruitment policy. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate excellence in research. The selection committee will consider the need to balance various fields of mathematical sciences in the newly created Department of Mathematics at KSE. KSE upholds high ethical standards and is committed to diversity and accessibility for all. We encourage women and candidates from other underrepresented minorities in mathematical sciences to apply. Our campus is accessible to people with limited mobility.
Safety and flexibility: Ukraine has been resisting the full-scale military invasion by the Russian Federation since the beginning of 2022. Kyiv is far from the front line, and the effects of the war in the city are primarily seen through air raids and power outages. Despite this, Kyiv is functioning fully, including medical services and the education system. In light of the uncertainties caused by the war, KSE welcomes candidates who are ready to join for shorter periods, starting from one teaching term, as well as those who would like to maintain their affiliation with a foreign university while working at KSE. This information can be included in the cover letter submitted by candidates.
