Join Us in Building the Future of Computer Vision in Ukraine!
The Kyiv School of Economics (KSE) is a fast-growing academic and research institution that blends global academic standards with a mission-driven focus on Ukraine’s economic and technological advancement. As a center of excellence in education, policy, and innovation, KSE is expanding its Computer Science Department and launching a new Computer Vision Laboratory to tackle real-world challenges with cutting-edge research.
We are seeking a Principal Investigator to lead this initiative, a visionary and driven researcher with a strong track record in computer vision and machine learning. The ideal candidate will have a substantial publication record, a history of securing competitive research funding, and experience in leading interdisciplinary teams.
Expertise in applied vision systems, particularly for autonomous drones, robotics, or defense applications, will be considered a significant advantage.
Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in Computer Science, or a closely related field, with a research focus in computer vision and machine learning.
Proven experience with large-scale image analysis, including tasks such as object detection, segmentation, tracking, or defect analysis.
Advanced proficiency in deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow) and computer vision toolkits (e.g., OpenCV, Detectron2, MMDetection).
A strong record of independent research demonstrated by publications in top-tier peer-reviewed journals and conferences (e.g., CVPR, ICCV/ECCV, NeurIPS, MICCAI).
Strong track record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting findings at academic or industrial conferences.
Experience in applied research and/or transitioning algorithms into real-world systems, including technology commercialization or collaborations with industry or government.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical material clearly to both academic and non-academic audiences.
Strong leadership skills, including the ability to set strategic directions, motivate and mentor a research team, and foster a collaborative and inclusive research culture.
Responsibilities. As a Principal Investigator, you will:
Lead groundbreaking research in computer vision and machine learning, with a focus on developing advanced algorithms for real-world applications, including defect detection, autonomous systems, and predictive analytics.
Design and execute an independent research agenda that will advance the state of the art in imaging and visual intelligence.
Build and manage a high-performing research team by identifying talent, defining project roles, and setting research directions.
Publish in top-tier journals and conferences and represent the lab at national and international scientific events.
Mentor PhD students, postdocs, and interns, fostering their development in both technical expertise and research communication.
Promote a lab culture of scientific excellence, innovation, and inclusion, ensuring team members are supported with clear goals, resources, and professional development opportunities.
What we offer:
A unique opportunity to shape the future of computer vision research in Ukraine as part of one of the country’s most dynamic and rapidly growing computer science departments.
The freedom to initiate your own research agenda, build international collaborations, and design new formats of engagement with the tech industry, public sector, and global academic partners.
